During the quarantine I had the idea of recording some improvisations for fun and then releasing them later this year for friends and family. This project quickly turned serious and I am so so happy with the finish product. Getting to produce my own EP has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Darkness is a Myth, vibrant and versatile performer-composer Clifton Joseph Guidry III’s first self-released EP explores the human-like qualities of the bassoon’s voice through a range of extended techniques including multiphonics, vocalizations as well as thoughtful additions of field recordings and electronics through experimental yet beautifully lyrical storytelling. This album is a representation of how Clifton sees the world on a spectrum of dark and light. This is an album that crosses that spectrum of darkness and lightness and borders between cinematic film score, free jazz and ultimately the listener’s own internal monologue in discussing radical self-love and radical self-care. The recording features Clifton Joseph Guidry III as both composer and performer. All works heard here were composed in 2020: these are their premiere recordings.
